eldorado
The legend of the mythical golden city of Eldorado, which has fueled human imagination for centuries, inspired the creation of this installation. Drawing on humanity’s relentless pursuit of the often unattainable, I sought to weave this concept into the work’s form and message. At the heart of the installation is a boat—a vessel designed to move forward, to traverse distances, and to reach destinations. However, by bending its structure into the shape of an “L,” I stripped it of its original function. After this transformation, the boat can only move in a circle, trapped in an endless loop. The helmsman is condemned to spin endlessly, always striving toward an elusive goal—mirroring our own chase after uncertainty, after the promise of an Eldorado that may not even exist. This work raises questions about the meaning of such pursuits: does the endless race to achieve goals—often mere illusions—truly enrich us? Is it worth sacrificing everything for something that brings neither fulfillment nor genuine joy? The distorted form of the boat, stripped of its original purpose, becomes a metaphor for human life—cyclical, repetitive, and frequently dominated by the chase for things that seem valuable but are ultimately illusory.
